What is this role about?
The Cost Engineer prepares cost estimates, tracks actual project expenses, forecasts budget needs, and supports cost control throughout project execution. They work closely with engineers, planners, and procurement teams to manage financial performance.
What will YOU do?
- Develop and maintain accurate cost estimates for projects based on design, scope, and specifications, ensuring alignment with budgets
- Monitor project expenditures, compare them to the budget, and ensure that costs are within allowable limits
- Generate regular cost reports for senior management, highlighting variances and providing explanations for any cost overruns or savings
- Identify trends in project costs and provide forecasts for future financial requirements, assisting in proactive budget adjustments
- Create and manage cost breakdown structures for different phases of the project to track expenses in detail
- Manage cost implications of any design or project changes, ensuring that all changes are documented, evaluated, and appropriately billed
- Support the procurement team by reviewing bids, helping with cost evaluations, and ensuring cost-effective purchasing decisions
- Collaborate with the project manager to prepare initial budgets and revise them throughout the project lifecycle based on actual expenditures and forecasting
- Suggest cost-saving and advice on project execution, helping to identify more efficient methods and materials
- Ensure that all financial activities related to the project are in compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and accounting standards
- Performs other functions that may be assigned from time to time
What will YOU need?
- At least 3 years experience in the same industry or function
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with active Engineering License
